We are never so vulnerable then when we trust.

Sat Jun 27, 2009, 2:52 PM
Trust. As humans we trust instinctively. You trust that the chair your sitting on will hold you. You trust that you will wake up the next day, and you trust the world will still be spinning. You trust that when someone tells you "I Love You." that they mean it; and your are trusting them to trust you.

Trust is the simplest thing given, easiest thing to be lost, and near most impossiblest (Yes, I made tat word up but it works.) thing to be regained. One wrong move, one wrong word and its all gone. The trust is broken, everything you believed to be true is thrown out the window. Trust is the gift given freely, yet is so often proven, not deserved.

We trust blindly but if we learn that we've been hoodwinked, then we not only question the lie itself but everything else that was involved. People take trust for granted, they assume that no matter what they do they are above the consequences, and even when they are found guilty they, more often then not, accuse the person they have hurt of being the wrong one. The sad fact is though, the person who was hurt was wrong. They were wrong to trust without question, they should have proceeded with more caution, and they should have put a guard up until they were 100% sure that person even deserved their trust.

Alas, no one lives like this though. Time after time people get hurt. We get angry, we put up these concrete walls, and we put on an act pretending to be stronger then we really feel. Lucky for us, that act actually in turn makes us stronger, and this pain we feel helps us to learn how to trust wiser, and choose who to trust more selectively. It hurts, it sucks, but it's life and life is full of lessons. The key is to learn from our mistakes: if we are one who lost someones trust or if we are the one who was proven incorrect for trusting that person. The only way to learn it though is to go through it. As difficult as this is to grasp, there are people in your life who are only there to hurt you so that you in turn can learn how to be a stronger, better version of yourself.

Nothing lost is nothing gained. If you lose nothing in life, then you've gained no knowledge and experience on what it's like to lose something you care about. Yes, we want to coast through life, unharmed, oblivious to any real threats, and just being content. But how will you know you are happy, if you have never experienced anger?

Life is full of unanswered questions like "Why did he cheat on me?", "Why did she have to die so young?", "Why wasn't I worth the truth?", "Is there is even One out there for me?","How could she do that to me?" "Why would he lie about everything?" We trust that one day, maybe not these specific questions, but all the burning questions in our mind will make sense, will all have answers. And even though trust is a fairly fickle gamble to rely on, without trust and hope we have no motivation to move on. Because, when you think about it, when we are hurt by someone we trusted, and yes we think the world is ending at that moment in time, we trust that karma will be a bigger bitch then we ever could be, and we trust that we will be okay in the end.

Funny, isn't it. Our entire lives are based on something we have barely any control over. Trust, the highest honor and heaviest gift.
